Base Segment ErrorsWarning

    B023Joint ECOA Without Associated Consumer

ECOA indicates a joint relationship but no J1/J2 segment is present

    Affected Field
    #10ECOA Code

    Description

When the Base Segment ECOA Code indicates joint contractual liability or co-maker (ECOA 2 or 7), the file should also include a J1 or J2 segment describing the associated consumer. A joint ECOA with no associated-consumer segment is internally inconsistent.

    Common Causes

    • Associated consumer data not appended
    • ECOA code set to joint by default

    How to Fix

    1. 1Append a J1 (same address) or J2 (different address) segment for joint accounts
    2. 2Use ECOA 1 (individual) only for truly individual accounts
    3. 3Reconcile ECOA with the presence of associated-consumer segments
