B026Date of First Delinquency Missing on Delinquent Account
A delinquent or charged-off account has no Date of First Delinquency
Affected Field
#19Date of First Delinquency
Description
The Date of First Delinquency (DOFD) is the FCRA-critical date that governs how long negative information remains on a credit report. Any account reported as delinquent (Status 71-84), in collection (93), or charged off (97) must carry an accurate DOFD. A missing or shifting DOFD is one of the most serious Metro 2 data-quality problems because it can cause information to age off too early or too late.
Common Causes
- DOFD never captured when the account first went delinquent
- DOFD reset when the account was sold or re-aged
- Confusing DOFD with Date of Last Payment
How to Fix
- 1Populate the original DOFD — the date the account first became delinquent and was never again brought current
- 2Never advance (re-age) the DOFD; it stays fixed for the life of the delinquency
- 3Carry the DOFD through portfolio sales so the obsolescence clock is preserved
